Abdominal Ultrasound Courses
Come and enjoy the beautiful beaches, volcanoes and rainforests of Costa Rica while learning ultrasound! These courses will be offered near Lake Arenal.
OR
If you have a group of interested colleagues (4 or more) in your area and prefer to stay stateside, the scanning labs can be scheduled at your clinic on your own ultrasound machine!
Courses available:
LEVEL 1: This course is an introduction into abdominal ultrasound. In the online lectures, we will cover basic ultrasound physics, how to use the ultrasound machine, and normal ultrasound anatomy of the abdomen. In the hands-on scanning labs, we will practice how to scan normal liver, spleen, urinary tract, GI tract, pancreas and adrenal glands.
This program has been RACE approved for 13 hours of continuing education credit in jurisdictions that recognize RACE approval, with 13 hours available to an individual attendee.
LEVEL 2: This course is a continuation of level 1. In the online lectures, we will cover sonographic pathology of all abdominal organs. In the hands-on scanning labs, we will continue honing our abdominal scanning skills and by the end of the course, students should feel comfortable performing a complete diagnostic abdominal scan. An equivalent course to level 1 is required before taking this course. We will not cover any basics of scanning, machine controls, or normal anatomy in this course.

***For each course, there are approximately 6 hours of lectures that will be available online for you to complete at your own pace within 3 months of enrolling in the course. There is a quiz at the end of each lecture that you must pass with a score of at least 70%. Once you have completed the lectures, you will be eligible for the scanning labs in person in Costa Rica or other determined location.***
***Scanning Lab for each course will be approximately 7 hours total, given over 2 days (4 days if you do both courses on one trip) at a general practice clinic in Costa Rica (or your own clinic). Cases will include my personal pets, pets of local friends and rescues, and clients of the clinic with approval of the clinic veterinarian. Each lab will be limited to 5 people to optimize scanning time.***
Tuition for each course (Level 1 or Level 2) is $1200 per person. This includes both the online lectures and scanning lab.
