COSTA RICA TRAVEL INFORMATION  

LOCATION INFO:

The ultrasound courses will be held near the town of Tilaran (Lake Arenal) in the province of Guanacaste.  This location is in the northern mountains of CR with an elevation of approximately 1800 feet above sea level.  The temperatures range from the upper 60s at night to the low/mid 80s during the day.  This is a fairly rainy part of the country with rain showers or thunderstorms each day of variable duration.  The months of February to May are typically warmer and drier.  June through January has progressively more rain each day.  Tilaran is approximately 1 hour from the tourist town of La Fortuna and Arenal Volcano.  It’s approximately 90 minutes to the closest beaches of Guanacaste.

AIRPORT INFO:

Liberia airport (LIR) is the closest to where the ultrasound courses will be held.  Driving time from the Liberia airport to Tilaran is approximately 75 minutes.  This airport is also closest to the beaches of Guanacaste, should you desire some beach time before or after the course.

San Jose airport (SJO) is approximately a 3 and 1/2 hour drive, but it’s a very beautiful drive through the mountains.  It is typically cheaper to fly into San Jose.

TRANSPORTATION:

Transportation from the airport to Lake Arenal area is the responsibility of the participant.  

Options for transportation to/from the airport:

• Rental car:  Adobe rental car company is the best option if you wish to rent a car.  There are many companies available (Alamo, Dollar, Sixt, etc.) but these companies typically have hidden fees for insurance and you will have to pay more when you pick up the car.  The insurance available through credit card companies is not generally accepted here.  Adobe will quote you an exact price with no hidden fees.

• Public buses are available.  Should you decide to do this, please let me know and I can help you figure out the best route.
